This is definitely something I needed to read right now. I'm a senior in high school, (and although it wasn't exactly the same as your son) I was suspended for 7 days as well.
I don't know... I guess just reading that it happens to the best of kids has made me feel a lot better. I was pretty distraught about it, y'know, having this now go on college applications... oh boy. More stress!

But thanks for writing about this. We all go through some stuff, but some of us end up with harsher punishments than we'd like. But yeah, this really did help me.

Keep up the comedy!
And yes, Teddy Grahams are serious weapons in school nowadays ;)

heard your routine on blue collar radio last nite on my way to chicago. loved it. laughter is the best medicine no matter what the affliction. Personally have dealt with muscle issues from whiplash but have several grandchildren. patience is the only virtue worth having . without it you would never catch the glimpse of the virtues possessed by these children. My son feared the day the second child entered the school system. surprise they discovered what only a grandma knew. Common sense and gut reaction is a rare characteristic that few posess. That wit and perception is like a breath of fresh air. They discovered that the so called hyperactive child was a perfect student quick to understand without lengthy explanation. trust is a wonderful thing along with the opportunity to observe without preconceived notions based on falacies.

Comment on Can There Be Anything Funny About Outreach? by Joe Durika

Jeff,

I am so happy to see someone else who feels that entertainment in the name of Jesus is outreach!

At my church, I often refer to myself as a "Fool for Christ," especially when someone asks me to be sprayed with whipped cream, pelted with water and flour, or (and I've actually done this) had half my head and face shaved off as ways to minister to kids.

I've similarly been used by God in our adult ministries (you may not remember me, but we met this past weekend at Messiah College...I mentioned using your "brownies in the bedroom" bit as the basis for a sketch for our Married Life Live events).

I am often disappointed that churches don't use comedy and drama to convey the message of Christ to those who might not otherwise listen to a sermon. I pray that God continues to find ways for me to use my gifts and my willingness to be a "Fool for Christ."

Thank you for your contribution to the cause of Christ! Your show on Friday night was awesome. Sorry if I laughed too loudly!!

Take heart! You have no idea how much fun the grandparent thing will be! God gives you this amazing "second chance" to do all the right things...to have all the patience in the world and to make wondfully correct decisions. And those children who had no time for you will become your close friends. It's a rewarding, really fun time of life...Thank God!!!

I could teach my niece and my friends son to drive, but when it came to teaching my son FORGET IT! I tried believe me I did.
We started out fine, but then he wanted control.I told him the speed limit was 45 he slowly started going a little bit faster.
Then we are apporching a curve goes way to fast runs into a pot hole looks at me and says, mom we need music.I turn on the radio to his liking, then he goes and says, mom it's not loud enough. That was it for me....had it....done it ...gone!
We adults need others to teach our teens.I agree Driver Ed teachers are way under paid...lol.

=D *Sheepish Laugh*

I'm in one now, I 15 and she's 16. My first real, relationship [parents]. Man, who knew you can't sleep no more =D Up half the night staring at the ceiling, wanna call her about 3AM so you can sleep. I don't think anybody wants to be woken at 3AM though. I miss my sleep, and my girlfriend when she ain't around. Anymore I'm a zombie walking around. Work is horrible like that =D and so is school. I guess it'll be worth it, once I calm down. I hope, my eyes are turning blue around the bottom and sagging, looks funny.

Well, I was coming home from a Church Youth Group Trip and our Youth Pastor was playing some of your comedy. I was in stitches, more than in stitches, the whole time. The marriage stories (it was a bunch of Christian Comedians, sure it was you) and the brownies were halarious. But I like the story about your father before you married. "Son you can be right, or you can be happy and right there he broke down crying!!!" I laughed so hard at the whole thing, I litterally fell out of the van seat. My girlfriend laughed at me falling out of the seat. Your a funny guy, God Bless.
